What We Do

Children Welfare Program (CWP)

For rearing and rehabilitant of orphans and helpless & autistics/handicapped children having no identity of guardians, Masjid Council is operating 3 (three) orphanage units under its Children Welfare Program (CWP) with full-phased residential facilities namely Special Children unit at Sonir Akhara, Jatrabari, Dhaka; Girls unit at Auchpara, Tongi, Gazipur City Corporation, Gazipur and Boys unit at Sonir Akhara, Jatrabari, Dhaka. As a non-profit motive runs orphanages, our primary source of income is your donations and charities.

Almost all the money we receive is spent for fulfilling the basic needs of the orphans including shelter, clothes, education, treatment & food. Currently, we have 68 orphan children in our orphanages—17 are special children, 25 are girls and 26 are boys.

Besides, we have 170 more non-residential orphans— 162 are special children and 8 are boys.

Alokito Shishu Projects

Alokito Shisu (Enlightened children) project, a very specially project run by Masjid Council is solely dedicated for slum and street children to ensure Al Quran teaching with Tajweed, to conduct pre schooling sessions along with Salah and daily life related Masalah-Masail, to encourage the practice of 5 time prayers daily, to promote health education, hygiene and sanitation and to distribution nutritious food with limited scale.

The extremely poor and vulnerable people living in Abdullahpur Gypsy Slum (Bede Polli), adjacent to Uttara, Dhaka and Slums situated at Sector 5, 10 and 15 Uttara, Dhaka are being taught through 15 education centers. The classroom strategy is being followed while the duration of each class is 2 hours. One well-trained instructor is appointed for teaching 25-30 learners in a center. The entire activity is supervised by a qualified coordinator of the kind.

Ideal Village Projects

This is Zakat based sustainable poverty reduction model to enhance socio-economic improvement and moral development of the poor and ultra-poor. The beneficiaries are selected through PRA and baseline survey. The selected beneficiaries are given training to manage the allocated capital and run efficiently income generating activities. The model ensures community ownership in capital formation, program implementation and monitoring. It also ensures target people’s access to local services and resources by awaring them about their rights and making the government and local government service delivery departments caring towards the beneficiaries.

Recently, such projects are being running in Dhaka, Manikganj and Kurigram district of the country.

Integrated Mother and Child Health Care Project

For ensuring integrated health care services to helpless and deprived mothers & children of the country, 20 health centers with full time paramedics and part-time MBBS doctors are functioning its activities in 8 districts of the country, namely Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Nilphamary, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Dhaka, Gazipur and Manikganj. The poor are given free treatment facilities along with financial support for advanced treatment & nutrition of pregnant mothers including necessary operation support.

Life Related Education

The socio-economic reality of the country sometimes compels some of the guardians of the rural areas not to send their children to schools. Considering the need for a future educated vanguard and to support the SDGs efforts of the government, Masjid Council is running this project. Under the project, adolescent boys & girls and adult male & female are taught Al Quran with Tajweed along with Salah and daily life related Masalah-Masail. They are also encouraged the practice of 5 time prayers daily with health education, hygiene & sanitation and distributed nutritious food with limited scale.

Currently, about 16 thousand learners are being taught under 460 more life related education centers in 10 districts.

Daragram Piped Water Supply Project (DPWSP)

Daragram under Saturia upazila of Manikganj District is an arsenic prone area. The underground water of the locality was contaminated with Arsenic and Iron. To ensure safe drinking water, Masjid Council initiated pipe water supply project in 2005 with the partial support of World Bank (through Social Development Foundation) at Daragram.

The direct beneficiaries of the project are calculated more than 1750 of 420 families.

Sewing Training and Production Center

In order to provide employment to the unemployed and destitute women with less education at village level, MCCA has been initiated various vocational trainings since 2013. Sewing training is one of them. The project trained 161 persons (153 females and 8 males) till date. While in 2020 alone, 22 unemployed and destitute women were given hand-to-hand training with free sewing machine. The project has 45 machines of different types including 26 power machines and more than 10 thousand cloths of different designs, on an average, are produced each year under this project.

Nursery Management and Tree Plantation

Nursery management is a newly adopted project. Under this project, it is planned to produce about 10 thousand plants from seeds in this year.

On the other hand, MCCA is running tree plantation project aimed to maintain the balance of the environment along with preservation of native fruits. It is also aimed to have the necessary fruits, forests and medicinal plants planted and preserved in each house. Each year, MCCA distributes 10 thousands more plants among its learners involved with life related education.

Humanitarian Support during Natural Disasters

Masjid Council always tries to feel people’s sufferings resulted from direct and indirect impact of various natural & manmade disasters. It addresses floods, fires, cyclones, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, severe thunderstorms, earthquakes, wildfires and even heavy winter & droughts through relief and rehabilitation.

Publishing Popular Monthly Magazine

For promoting universal values of Islam, Masjid Council has been publishing a thoughtful Islamic magazine named ‘Monthly Jiggasha’ since 2005.  The magazine is contented with darsul Quran & hadith, Friday sermon, life of the women companions of prophet (SAW), bibliography of Islamic scholars, expatriate column, poems and articles on health, youth & juvenile, & other contemporary issues. A very popular section of the magazine is Question and Answer section. In this section, various life-oriented views to its readers both from home and abroad are addressed.

Education Support Program

This is mainly a scholarship program for the needy but brilliant students of Madrasha, school & college and also for the students who are at graduate and post-graduate level.

Faith Leaders in Peace Action

Active Summary: 
The activity aims to mobilize selected faith influencers with enhanced skills to rebuild trust and take a bridge-building role among communities against violent extremism in Bangladesh. This activity under the project supports MCCA to organize two PVE orientations for 40 faith influencers, produce 3 short videos on peace message involving key faith personalities and stakeholders. Additionally, MCCA asks for review on these 3 videos from 5-10 inter-faith leaders and air the finalized videos in digital media/ popular online based TV channels and social websites.

Empowering Female Students with Peace Building Skill

Active Summary: 
This activity trained 25 female teachers of 20 informal institutions to help female Madrasha students to think critically about outside negative influencers, develop emotional intelligent skills and self-confident to understand, identify and reject negative and violent actions. Under this six-month long project, MCCA developed a curriculum on peace building and leadership skills, conduct two orientations for institutional personnel and one two-day long orientation on curriculum for female teachers from informal institutions in Dhaka.

Engaging Faith Scholars and Influential Professional to Promote Tolerance

Active Summary:
Under this project, MCCA arranged 8 workshops covering 8 divisions (Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymenshing) with Influential and Progressive Faith Leaders from Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Adivasi and other faith based community (Both male and female). These workshops brought together different faith leaders to identify their roles and specific actions they can take to act against social disharmony and intolerance.
