Masjid Council for Community Advancement (MCCA)

Background
Masjid Council for Community Advancement (MCCA) started its journey in 1999 as a development advocacy and humanitarian organization. Since then it is working for sustainable but integrated development, human security, peace and communal harmony across the country. With vast network of faith leaders throughout the country and huge working experience with national and international developments agencies like World Bank, USAID, The Asia Foundation, UNAIDS, UNICEF, BRAC, UNFPA and others individual, MCCA is committed to overcome people’s vulnerability and sufferings irrespective of their religion, race, ethnicity or gender and striving for creating a society free from violent extremism (VE) and injustice.

  • To establish a humanitarian society free from poverty, inequity & inequality, exploitation and violent extremism (VE)

Objectives

  • To rearing and rehabilitating of orphans, unclaimed & physically challenged children, widows and elderly;
  • To play a role for scaling up the moral standard of the people;
  • To promote livelihood capacities of marginalized groups and ensure primary health care services for them;
  • To ensure emergency humanitarian supports and rehabilitation for vulnerable;
  • To establish alternative but citizen-friendly approaches to prevent a re-emergence of extremist groups in Bangladesh;

Life Related Education (LRE)
MCCA lunched the LRE project in June 2012 with only 30 centers aimed to scaling up the citizen with good morals and human values. Now the project is running in 8 districts of the country among pre-school level, adolescents and aged male & female. Each center consists of 35 students with 2 years course duration. The students who completed the course successfully are able to read al Quran fluently and learned various types of life-related lessons.

Children Welfare Program (CWP)
Masjid council since its inception has been working for the wellbeing of the orphans, destitute, abandoned and autistics/handicapped children under this program. Through this, it is tried to bring back these sects of the society in the mainstream of the development. The program covers a full package of balanced diet, quality education, health, shelter and other necessary amenities. For the balanced development of these children, national and international guidelines including ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ are followed. Currently, there are 26 boys, 25 girls and 17 physically challenged children in 3 (three) orphanage units.  

Daragram Piped Water Supply Project (DPWSP)
This project is implementing at Daragram— an arsenic prone area under Saturia upazila of Manikganj District since 2007. Its a joint venture project with World Bank. The arsenic-free pure drinking water is being supplied among 423 families more of the locality under the project through a high capacity water pump, overhead tank and necessary water treatment plant. To ensure water quality, treated water is regularly tested in the laboratory of BUET.

 Ideal Village Projects
This is a Zakat based sustainable poverty reduction model through the development of livelihood capacity and morals of the poor and ultra-poor of the society. The prime objective of this project is to build the capacity of beneficiary, enhance income level and ensure primary health care services, nutrition, hygiene & sanitation. This project is implementing in the district of Dhaka, Manikganj and Kurigram. Under this project, a non-returnable fund of about BDT 1 crore has already been provided to about 542 beneficiaries in 2021 and 2022 for income enhancement activities.

Integrated Mother and Child Health Care Project
With this regular project, MCCA is tried to ensure integrated health care services to helpless and deprived people especially mothers & children of the society. The poor of the locality comprising women, children, adolescents and aged are being treated by MBBS and Paramedics with free medicine support. There is a provision of providing necessary health and nutritional support with counseling service to pregnant and lactating mothers. 

Publishing Popular Monthly Magazine
For promoting universal values of Islam, Masjid Council has been publishing a thoughtful Islamic magazine named ‘Monthly Jiggasha’ since 2005.  The magazine is contented with articles of Islamic scholars, expatriate column, poems and articles on health, youth & juvenile, and other contemporary issues. A very popular section of the magazine is Question and Answer part. In this section, various life-oriented queries to its readers from both home and abroad are addressed.

Council Complex
To extend its multidimensional service-oriented activities, Masjid Council complex has been established in Jatrabari, Dhaka. Boys and disable units under Children Welfare Program (CWP), Nurunnesa Bibi Dakhil Madrasha and Mir Nawab Ali Jame Mosque are operating its activities in the complex premises. For ensuring quality education, especially, Nurunnesa Bibi Dakhil Madrasha starts its journey with a new look from PLAY group to Class VIII.

Humanitarian Support during Natural Disasters
Masjid Council always tries to feel people’s sufferings resulted from direct and indirect impact of various natural & manmade disasters. It addresses floods, fires, cyclones, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, severe thunderstorms, earthquakes, wildfires and even heavy winter & droughts through its relief and rehabilitation activities.
